Webinar: IMANA Cancer Education Initiative

What: Kicking off the IMANA Education Cancer Initiative, this webinar will discuss the importance of raising cancer awareness and education.
Seema Azim will discuss the importance of health screenings like mammography;
Sama El Baz, a cancer survivor, will discuss her project on “Cheesecake for a Cause”;
Joya Harris is representing the American Cancer Society and will present a general overview of ACS’ research, cancer control programs in addition to survivorship and cancer awareness months;
and
Shifa Mohiuddin, wife of a cancer survivor, will discuss the IMANA Cancer Education initiative.

Seema Azim

Seema Azim is a 1st year medical student at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University. she serves on the leadership for her medical school’s mobile mammography initiative and was also a founding member of the Muslims in Healthcare Interest Group.

Sama El Baz

A cancer survivor and is raising funds currently with her project “Cheesecake for a Cause” for the American Cancer Society and other organizations. El Baz is a global health professional with four years-experience working on global health, international development and peacebuilding initiatives across Latin America and the Middle East. She was recently admitted to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she is pursuing graduate study in public health.

Joya Harris, MPH

Director, Research Integration at the American Cancer Society. She is also a stage 3C breast cancer survivor and very passionate about the importance of disseminating research results to the medical community from the patient perspective. She will present a general overview of ACS’ research, cancer control programs in addition to survivorship and cancer awareness months.

Shifa Mohiuddin

She is a member of IMANA Cancer Education initiative. She is the wife of a cancer survivor, has lobbied for the Affordable Care Act & Cancer Survivorship on Capitol Hill, and more recently has been working with the Cancer Fund, a non-profit project in partnership with the Asian American Center of Frederick (AACF) of Maryland which is helping to alleviate the financial burdens associated with cancer care for patients and their families. degree in Islamic Studies and Biology from George Washington University, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community-Oriented Primary Care.
